Stunning and exceptionally rare, this is a vintage 1930s to early 1940s hand embroidered matador's cape from Spain. Made of heavy black rayon satin and hand embroidered front and back with floral design. Large shawl collar is also heavily embroidered. Entire cape is trimmed in sequins and gold cording. There is a gold cord tie at the neck with tassels, and a back center slit. It is padded with multiple layers and lined in red rayon. There are no arm openings, this lays over the shoulders only. It is in excellent, museum quality, condition, there is a bit of mending to the tiny cord on the collar edge, light fray above one tassel, and two small scuffs on the back side, see all the photos in detail.
If you plan to wear or display this cape, it is advisable to attach a different hidden tie at the neck. This is a very heavy cape and I do not think the existing ties would be strong enough to hold it for the long term.
It is quite a small size for the upper body, and the shoulders/neck seemed to hang the best on my smallest dress form.
Shoulders between scalloped points of the lining where shoulders should fall - approx 16 inches Sweep around bottom hem - approximately 50 inches Length from center back to hem - 32 inches
